Some common uses and examples of the literary devices:

Alliteration, consonance, cacophony are the key examples of poetic devices that relate to the sounds and rhythm of the words.

Alliteration is the use of certain words in a line that creates similar sounds using consonants and focusing on the initial letters of the term.

Cacophony covers the dissimilar and blunt words which create the idea of disorder and chaos.

Onomatopoeia includes the direct imitation of the sounds which is expressed with words like shhh, smash, jangle, crack, etc

Allegory, simile, metaphor, allusion, and irony are the most popular examples which are employed to create strong meaning in a piece of writing.

Allegory is used to create a fictional world in which real-life issues are discussed indirectly and criticized secretly from a safe distance. It’s mostly used to write social and political satires which represent the real-life characters through their fictional counterparts.

Metaphors are the direct comparisons of things with other things such as he is a lion of the ring. Whereas, the simile is an indirect comparison to the other things such as he is brave as a lion.

Personification is another poetic device that is used to give lifelike qualities to inanimate objects as a person: the cold wind is caressing their bare faces.

Rhymes, verses, and poetic meter are concerned with special uses and arrangements of the sentences and words to achieve a certain tone. Rhymes are the most common examples that give a similar tone to the sentence when it breaks at similar letters. Example; tiger burning bright in the forest of the night. Bright and night create a similar tone that breaks with the same syllable.

The poetic meter is another literary device that is employed to achieve a rhythm in the lines. It works when poets include words with the same number of syllables in the verses. Iambic pentameter is the most common example which was first used by the famous Italian poet Petrarch. Shakespeare takes up these Petrachcan meters which later came to be known by his name.
