Use of emotive language to make better writing

Language is the best way to express your thoughts, ideas, option, and emotion. The term emotive refers to emotions. When emotions are expressed through words and sentences the type of language used for this is called emotive language.  

What is Emotive Language?

Emotive language is the type of language that expresses and evokes emotion in the mind of readers. This kind of language is used to persuade the reader or listener to share the writer’s and speaker’s points of view. Emotive language is the best form of language to connect with people whether written or verbal.  

Non-Emotive- Put that in the recycle bin.

Emotive- You should recycle because it saves the planet.  

Explanation- The first sentence is giving the command but does not consist of emotion, while the second sentence suggests action and elicits the emotional response.

How To Use Emotive Language in Literature?  

Emotive language is used in different areas in the following ways:

Advertisements- Advertisement uses emotive language to evoke emotions in the mind of their audience to intrigue their curiosity.  

Poems- Emotive language is used in the poems with an aim of conveying the feelings in the words to the readers.  

Speeches- The speeches given by the leaders are aimed at striking thoughts in the listener’s minds.  

Novels- In novels, it portrays the life of a character in a narrative and makes the reader feel what the character feels.

Movies and Drama- Art is a picture of life so it is depicted in movies and drama.  

Marketing slogans- A marketing slogan is also an example of emotive language in a limited amount of words.

Public Announcements- Public service announcement is aimed to strike the emotion in the audience to bring about a change. Therefore it is an effective example of emotive language.  

Journals- Personal journals and diaries are examples of emotive language.

The advantages of emotive language are given below:

It engaged the reader in the particular writing.

It allows the reader to connect with the characters.

It evokes the reader’s emotion in writing.

It acts as an expressive tool.

It helps to better convey the information to the authors.  

It provides the cultural background.  

Conclusion

Therefore the use of emotive language incites the audience to react in a particular way and to take action in response.
